Back in 2010, a group of people came up with the idea to build a multi-sensory garden on a piece of disused land that lies at the back of the school. Since then, the school sensory garden has evolved into an outdoor oasis for children to climb, run, learn and play. Outdoor play is so important for young children. It helps develop the children’s sensory, social and emotional skills and it creates unique learning experiences for children.
Highlights of the garden include treehouses, slides, a pizza hut and oven, a rope bridge, a climbing rope and many more hidden gems. Recently, the school added a brand-new swing which the children absolutely love – it has quickly become one of the most popular spots in the garden, bringing lots of laughter and joy during playtime. Our school is very proud to have this precious resource and we look forward to seeing it evolve over the coming years.
The school also has an infant play area where there is a sandpit, a play cooker, tyres, hopscotch and much more. The children love playing there all year round.
We were also delighted to add a new Polytunnel to our school grounds. This exciting addition means that children of all ages can enjoy gardening throughout the seasons – planting seeds, watching their plants grow, and learning about nature in a hands-on way. The polytunnel is already becoming a wonderful space for outdoor learning and discovery, and the whole school community gets to enjoy it together.
