Cork City Sports

We participate in the Cork City Sports every year. Children who qualify get an opportunity to run individual races and relays against other schools in MTU. The students look forward to it every year and it is great to see them going home with trophies for their hard work.

We are very fortunate to have been given tabletennis tables. The children enjoy playing against each other and taking part in some healthy competition. They participate in competitions with Munster Tabletennis in Terence McSwiney Community Hall.

The children get to go to St. Anne’s Pitch and Putt Club. They are treated to sessions with Stephen who shows them how to use different golf clubs, swing the ball correctly and try to get a hole in one.

Soccer Tournaments

Children in the senior classes take advantage of the opportunity to participate in the FAI Soccer Tournaments and also inter-school competitions that are help throughout the year. In 2023 we also set up the ‘Strawberry Hill N.S. Invitational Soccer Tournament’ for local schools, supported by the Corks Sports Partnership.

Sports Day

We hold an annual Sports Day in St. Vincent’s GAA and Terence McSwiney. The children take part in egg and spoon races, tug-of-war, soccer, hockey, tag rugby, hurdles, javelin and more. The children love the variety of games and are always tired when they go home after their day of fun.

Active Week

We participate in Active Week every year. This is a week where children focus on their physical and mental wellbeing. There are whole school movement breaks, fruit tasting, opportunities to try out different sports, wear their favourite jerseys, and lots more.

Other sports

The children also take part in other aspects of the P.E. curriculum throughout the year. They do gymnastics, dance, athletics, games, and outdoor and adventure activities.
